Spaceballs: The Schwartz Awakens Posters — Finally!
These posters for the 1987 Mel Brooks movie Spaceballs aren’t commemorating anything in particular. The film’s 28th anniversary passed this summer without much fanfare. There is really no reason that Spaceballs ought to be celebrated at this particular moment.
Except that it’s the best Star Wars parody ever! And seeing as we’re neck-deep in all this Star Wars-mania we should remember that there was a hell of a lot worth parodying in that wonderful and ridiculous original trilogy (ok, Eps. 4-6, whatever). A princess with strange hair buns. A neurotic, too-shiny robot. A skilled fighter pilot like a giant walking collie (or walking carpet, that’s what she said). And a villain who’s going way overboard on the all-black, scary-helmet, in-case-you-didn’t-know-I’m-totally-evil look.
So with Star Wars: The Force Awakens getting all the headlines, it’s high time we had artsy posters for Spaceballs: The Schwartz Awakens. These three were created by Josh Budich and will go on sale through Nakatomi Incorporated on December 9 (tomorrow):
