July 12, 2019--Here’s one more look at Heavy Metal 293 (the Beyond The Darkness Special) — gruesome and glorious images from Flavio Greco Paglia, who is featured in a gallery inside the mag and whose art was also chosen as Cover A. Argentina-based Paglia works as a concept artist and animator, but when he’s not doing that he paints some bloody brilliant horror festival posters and comic book covers. His visuals trade in what he calls “a form of body horror” and inhabit “a gore playground.” Just how we like it!
This selection of 12 images is completely different from the ones we included in issue 293 — and you can see more of Paglia’s pictures at artstation.com/flaviogreco and at behance.net/flaviogreco. If you’re wondering how these can be so dark yet splashy, it’s totally by design — as Paglia told us, “I like vibrant reds contrasted with a range of cold colors. I also tend to put them in highly saturated neon-like ways, as light sources, which in spite of creating dark moods gives a clear pop vibe to my palettes.” It’s all about the reds.
