The Making of “Dirt,” by Steve Mannion from Heavy Metal #277

Billed as a stand-alone science fiction tale or a Fearless Dawn “Elseworlds” story, Steve Mannion’s “Dirt,” featured in Heavy Metal #277, is an action packed pot-boiler that satisfies our thirst for outer-space thrillers. Out of the gate Steve throws us into the thick of things as our heroes are sent on a mission to retrieve some special “space dirt”. Immediately things begin to go wrong as the rocket ship begins to break apart. It all goes from bad to worse as the crew encounters a space monster and other deep space perils. I won’t give it all away as you’ll need to read the issue. But here are some of Steve’s comic page processes.
